Glimpse of Our Collection

We started collecting Coca-cola items circa 2000. Started with small items particularly cans and bottles. It was only in 2006 that we started seriously expanded our collection to include other items.

We were inspired to create a Coke room, after viewing an extensive collection of a family friend who started collecting since the 1970s.

A couple of friends dropped a few days ago and this is a sneak peek to what they saw.

Snapshots of their visit

Have a Coke and Wear a Shirt

A promo by Coca-cola and Bench in 2009. Three TV personalities, Enchong Dee, Kim Chu and Shaina Magdayao strutted the runaway and graced TV channels wearing Coca-cola statement shirts in red, white and purple.

We really wanted the shirt and went to a Bench branch at ATC, ready to pay for it. But we were informed by the saleslady that Bench only acts as a redemption center for Coke. We should present the corresponding crown with the shirt logo underneath and only then will we be able to avail of the shirt for free.

Until the end of the promotional campaign we were unable to get even one prized crown. We were envious of the lucky few who would proudly walk around wearing their Coca-cola shirts.

Good thing they brought back the shirts in another promo, this time in partnership with Greenwich. Purchase a value meal, earn a stamp and after completing the required number of stamps, you can avail of the shirt.

Many still wanted the shirt so it was hard to look for branches of Greenwich to complete our set. Managed to exchange the last item at Greenwich - Shell Alabang branch.

Coke Side of Life

One of our favorite advertising campaigns: The Coke Side of Life (launched circa 2006).

We love the artwork, with graphic images rising like a fountain on top of the bottle. So colorful and unique! Very cinematic on and off screen! The company probably commissioned a lot of artists from each region just to come up with such diverse designs.

The campaign was worldwide, and in the Philippines, the company launched three (3) designs for the 330ml Coca-cola can.

We were also able to get a few designs from nearby Asian countries

Dubai and Vietnam

Hong Kong

A Filipino song 'Ang Sarap Dito' was integrated into a commercial featuring the 'Angel'. The Angel has captured our attention with her classic angelic features. Her posters were posted all over the country at the time. If you happen to drop by Mall of Asia, there was a huge wall backdrop with her picture.

Lucky for us to be able to take some snapshots.

Recently (2009), a phased-out CSOF jeepney was parked in front of the Coca-cola Corporate offices in Makati. This one was modified and showcase the basketball franchise Coca-cola Tigers.

Open Happiness

The Coca-cola Company launched the Open Happiness campaign worldwide in the first half of 2009. The new tag line is supposed to tie the fun and happiness with Coca-cola.

In the US market, they released five designs and we have the second, the third and the fifth design. We would love to get hold of the fourth can which has a unique Coca-cola rolling script design.

Also as part of the campaign, Coke will be conducting a talent search in South Africa this August (part of the FIFA World Cup). They will search for three talents who will be back vocalists in the ‘Summer Yama SummAHHH' track to be released in October 2010.

1950s Philippine Ads

Coke was introduced in the Philippines in 1927 and at the end of each year, holiday greetings would be in the form of print advertisements.

We would love to get one of these. Here are two pictures we happen to come across in one of our web searches. Still in black and white, even has stains.

Coca-cola Freezer Mugs

Fifteen-ounce freezer mugs made of durable red plastic. The sides are filled with liquid. Placed it in the freezer and it kept the Coke ice cold!

We have three designs

Coca-cola Wind-up Plane

Wind-up and battery-operated (double A batteries). Polar bear holding a Coke pilots the plane. Propeller rotates and the plane rocks, gliding left to right to the song of the `Always Coca-Cola'. Very good condition. With box intact and almost new.

A friend of the hubby's sister married a Caucasian who wants to dispose of the said toy. Gave us the item for free. :)

Coca-cola Trading Cards

If you collect Coca-cola advertising items or trading cards, you might be interested in this blog entry.

The trading cards were reproduced in 1990s and show everything that is Coca-cola for the period of 1909 to 1993: delivery trucks, advertisements, original artwork, etc. At the back of each card is a write-up and a bit of trivia.

Very useful reference for collectors who want information on vintage items.

Full set is 100. Hard to find nowadays. Manage to have a couple with duplicates, not framed.

Lights all Aglow

Here is another use for those empty Coca-cola bottles. GRRRrrrr... really envious! Hope we can get hold of those empty bottles before they get recycled.

But can someone tell us, the material is made of plastic, is it safe???

Snow Globes from Round Coca-cola Bottles

Wish we have spare bottles to work with. This really is interesting. It would go well with our Coke collection

A Coca-cola Ride

We are always on the lookout for Coca-cola delivery vehicles for a much-needed pic. This was making deliveries and was parked by the roadside. Thanks for the very accommodating driver! Hope it wasn't too much trouble :))

Round Coca-Cola Bottles

In honor of the World Cup, instead of the customized labels, Coca-cola launched unique round 80z plastic bottles. Not sure how many of these are out there. So, far we managed to get hold of three:

Holiday Season 2008,

American Idol Season 9

and 8oz Regular Coke from Japan.

Science of Coke and Mentos

As a child I was amazed when a classmate dropped Mentos in a bottle of Coke and he got this huge fountain spray with all the foam coming out.

Only when I got older did I discover that there is a science to all of this.

Experiments in Mythbusters suggested the chemicals responsible for the reaction are gum arabic and gelatine in the sweets, and caffeine, potassium benzoate and aspartame in the Coke. But there have been no rigorous scientific studies of the reaction until now.

In layman's term, the prime factors that drive the fizzy plumes from Coke bottles: the roughness of the sweet and how fast it plummets to the bottle's base.

Not-Cool Article

Lifted from this site: http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/gawker/2010/01/haitigirl.jpg

A teenage Haitian girl who was in the shower when her house collapsed was rescued alive yesterday, 15 days after the earthquake. "[She] mumbled something about having a little Coca-Cola with her in the rubble." Sign her up, Coke. [AP]

DEFINITELY NOT COOL!!

Aluminum Water Bottle

This was a promo for Jollibee in 2009. Each Jollibee value meal earns a stamp. Eight stamps is equivalent to one metal aluminum water bottle. Available in three colors. Consumed a lot of value meals just to get hold of this item :))

A few weeks after, we also got hold of a water bottle from Italy. It was a little bit taller and its body was a combination of metal and plastic. Sturdier than the local version.

Water Game Truck

Can be filled with water. Push the white button and miniature cans and bottles shoot upwards. Drop items inside the cooler or truck.

Musical Coin Bank

Battery operated musical coin bank. With sounds of a dropping coin, sounds of the vendo machine dropping the can or bottle, the tab being opened, etc. Had fun playing with this item.

Snowman Puzzle

This is a snowman puzzle we finished in October 2008. It was fairly easy to do since it is comprised mainly of large cardboard pieces. Managed to finish it in five hours. Framed and hung during the Christmas holidays

McDonald's Carton Cups

McDonald's launched special carton cups for the FIFA World Cup. Sad that majority of these items will be trashed :-(

FIFA 2010

The World FIFA Cup is here again and Coca-cola launced a plastic wrapped bottle in celebration of the event. It has dynamic graphics and images of football imagery. Ebay sells it at US$49.99 (a rip off!!)

Fortunately, we managed to get hold of the said commemorative bottle and a couple of cans for FREE!! Thank you friends and relatives :))

No Noranian

We are not fans of Nora Aunor, but we cannot help but be amazed when we found out that she was formerly an endorser of Coca-cola. Would love to meet a fan who would willingly let go of her idol's poster.

This was supposedly a contest wherein participants are required to look for her signature under the Coca-cola crown. The coveted prize? A colored photo of Nora Aunor!

Entrance to Our Coke Room

We had this sign custom-made. Children are also welcome to view our collection, but they should always be accompanied by an adult.
