Our Quest for a Mang Inasal Coca-cola Tumbler

A good friend of ours gave us a "tip" that Coca-cola would launch a promo together with Mang Inasal (a chain of  restaurants from Bacolod) as its partner. The Coca-cola-Mang Inasal tumbler is available in Metro Manila since the 10th of October and will be launched in the provincial branches starting October 15, 2010.

Since Alabang is part of the greater Metro Manila area, Bong and I went to Alabang Town Center, Festival and SM Tunasan to see if there is a Mang Inasal branch within the said shopping centers. The ones in Festival and Alabang Town Center, were Chicken Bacolod & BBQ House, not Mang Inasal branches. But we chose to have lunch there and Bong took a shot of me beside the store's refrigerator holding a can of Coca-cola. (pampalubag-loob!)

SM Tunasan is covered by the number-coding scheme, but Muntinlupa has a number-coding window from 10am to 3pm. It was a race to beat the 3pm deadline. We were disappointed to know that the Mang Inasal branch in SM Tunasan  has not received its share of tumblers in connection with the promo. But they advised us to return by October 15.

The good thing about a quest is the excitement involved in the search. We always make it a point to take pictures to help us remember the day. The escalator leading from the SM Hypermart also provided us a nice shot of of the ongoing Open Happiness promo.

Wacky shot: SAY COKE!!!!

Note: Not to be discouraged we also dropped by Mang Inasal's San Pedro and SM Sta. Rosa branches for the fervent hope that they received their stocks ahead of time (hehehe addicts!)

Coca-cola Park

There is a place called Coca-cola Park. It is also known as Ellis Stadium and is located in Johannesburg, South Africa. The stadium is the home of two of Johannesburg sports teams, The Golden Lions Rugby team and the Orlando Pirates FC football team. It is also a popular concert venue.

This year (2010), it is touted as one of the most memorable venues for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Coca-cola 100th Anniversary Design

The Coca-cola celebrated its 100th anniversary by releasing this bottle. The bottle was exclusively made for Selfridges, a popular department store in London. The bottles are made of glass with a bright shade of yellow (Selfridge's signature color).

Coca-cola Contour Bottle

The Coca-cola contour bottle was originally patented on Nov. 16, 1915, but it wasn't available to customers at retail until a year later. Nowadays, it's harder to find a true glass contour bottle on retails shelves as suppliers opt to have the less fragile aluminum and plastic (PET) containers. However, nothing tastes better than an ice-cold, fizzy Coca-cola straight from the original glass bottle!

Ramadan Coca-cola

The crescent moon and star design of the Ramadan appeared on Coca-cola aluminum cans in 2008. This was distributed in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Indonesia, Morocco, Tunisia and other countries with a great many Muslims.

Coca-cola Can Glass

This cool glass is shaped to look like their aluminum-can counterpart, complete with a raised logo design. Our complete set of 6 was bought at a specialty shop.

Coca-cola 'Out Fishing' Puzzle

A 500-piece puzzle which we haven't started yet. It shows a boy out fishing with his dog and holding a bottle of Coke. This is a common design for serving trays, calendars and posters. It was also once used in a Saturday Night Post ad.

Coca-cola Aluminum Contour Bottles

In 2008, Coca-cola test marketed these aluminum contour bottles at nightclubs and selected events. The bottles come in black, silver and red for Coke Zero, Diet Coke and Coke Classic. We were able to purchase ours on the web. They are so stylish compaired to the ordinary aluminum can.

Tubs and Ice Bucket

Items we have in our collection:

  • Insulated galvanized ice bucket with the 'Delicious and Refreshing' logo and a wooden handle. This was a gift of hubby's sister.

  • Set of three, oval Coca-cola tin tubs in different designs. We use these as accent pieces for our Coca-cola bottles.

  • Party Tub made of red durable plastic. Measures 17.75" in diameter and 7" tall. Has handles for easy carrying. We filled this with more Coca-cola bottles.
  • We have three mini party serving tubs of the same design and made of plastic. Measures 6" in diameter and 2.5"deep.

Coca-cola Barbie Dolls

Would love to get hold of these items. Very 1950s! Definitely collector items! This was launched in 1999 by Mattel and costs US$40.00 each.

Coca-cola Tumbler at Big Mak

A cousin told us about this promo. There was no notice posted inside the premises. Also no deadline. Must be while supply lasts.

Buy a two-piece-chicken meal for P79.00, get a Coca-cola tumbler for free. It is a set, complete with lid and bendable, plastic straw.

Coca-cola Santa & Polar Bear

The Coca-cola Santa was created to get more people to drink soda in the colder months.

The polar bear was part of the 1993 'Always Coca-cola' campaign. It was introduced to launch a new advertising concept, animated story board commercials on TV.

Not only did the ideas work, but it etched two of the most popular icons in advertising history.

Things Go Better with Coke

THINGS GO BETTER WITH COKE

This was the slogan for Coca-cola in the 1960s. This was the first ad campaign that employed television, rather than print, as its principal medium. The company employed popular artists, among them: the Supremes, Aretha Franklin, the Moody Blues, and Jan & Dean.

Vanilla Coke Ad

An Indian ad circa 2004, which features one of Bolywood's actors Vivek Oberoi

Tastes Like Home

During the World War II, Coca Cola used a simple "Tastes Like Home" slogan. Simple yet very effective!

Road Trip June 2010

On one of our road trips, we took snapshots of various Coca-cola points along the way.

Coca-cola New Bottlers Corporation in Brgy Lecheria, Calamba Laguna. This is an old Coca-cola plant. When we were young, there were large glass windows which you can view from the street. We were so fascinated with the Coca-cola bottles rolling along a conveyor belt. Wonder why they closed this facility.

The place is not abandoned though. Security guards roam the compound. There were empty plastic crates stacked on top of the other and Coca-cola delivery trucks were parked inside the property.

Right after Bato-bato Resort in Pansol, Calamba we always see these bottle-shaped contraptions formerly attached to the now-phased out Coca-cola jeep. They were on top of commercial stalls selling rubber floats (salbabida) and other swimming knick-knacks.

About 5 feet tall they were really eye-catching!

We tried to buy at least one from the lady manning the store, but she told us that the owner has no plans of selling them. We were told that people have been inquiring about them. What is the owner saving these for?

The new sales office of Coca-cola in San Pablo City. It was a weekend so we were able to get a shot of the compound entrance.

'Play Refreshed' Poster

This is a 1952 poster reprinted in 1991 and sold as a postcard. Notice that though the poster was from the 1950s, a boy is shown to serve bottles of Coke to a girls' baseball team. Would love to have the postcard, if not the poster.

'What I want is a Coke' Puzzle

This is a puzzle we bought in a hobby shop in 2006. We have a duplicate box which is a gift of our cousin Mon. It is a replica of a 1952 poster showing a lady lounging on the beach.

The puzzle is 1000 pieces and harder than the snowman puzzle. We placed it on a long table since it is somewhat narrow and long in size. Have not touched it for over a year now. Hopefully we can finish it soon and have it framed. Several hundred pieces to go.

Glimpse of Our Collection

We started collecting Coca-cola items circa 2000. Started with small items particularly cans and bottles. It was only in 2006 that we started seriously expanded our collection to include other items.

We were inspired to create a Coke room, after viewing an extensive collection of a family friend who started collecting since the 1970s.

A couple of friends dropped a few days ago and this is a sneak peek to what they saw.

Snapshots of their visit

Have a Coke and Wear a Shirt

A promo by Coca-cola and Bench in 2009. Three TV personalities, Enchong Dee, Kim Chu and Shaina Magdayao strutted the runaway and graced TV channels wearing Coca-cola statement shirts in red, white and purple.

We really wanted the shirt and went to a Bench branch at ATC, ready to pay for it. But we were informed by the saleslady that Bench only acts as a redemption center for Coke. We should present the corresponding crown with the shirt logo underneath and only then will we be able to avail of the shirt for free.

Until the end of the promotional campaign we were unable to get even one prized crown. We were envious of the lucky few who would proudly walk around wearing their Coca-cola shirts.

Good thing they brought back the shirts in another promo, this time in partnership with Greenwich. Purchase a value meal, earn a stamp and after completing the required number of stamps, you can avail of the shirt.

Many still wanted the shirt so it was hard to look for branches of Greenwich to complete our set. Managed to exchange the last item at Greenwich - Shell Alabang branch.

Coke Side of Life

One of our favorite advertising campaigns: The Coke Side of Life (launched circa 2006).

We love the artwork, with graphic images rising like a fountain on top of the bottle. So colorful and unique! Very cinematic on and off screen! The company probably commissioned a lot of artists from each region just to come up with such diverse designs.

The campaign was worldwide, and in the Philippines, the company launched three (3) designs for the 330ml Coca-cola can.

We were also able to get a few designs from nearby Asian countries

Dubai and Vietnam

Hong Kong

A Filipino song 'Ang Sarap Dito' was integrated into a commercial featuring the 'Angel'. The Angel has captured our attention with her classic angelic features. Her posters were posted all over the country at the time. If you happen to drop by Mall of Asia, there was a huge wall backdrop with her picture.

Lucky for us to be able to take some snapshots.

Recently (2009), a phased-out CSOF jeepney was parked in front of the Coca-cola Corporate offices in Makati. This one was modified and showcase the basketball franchise Coca-cola Tigers.

Open Happiness

The Coca-cola Company launched the Open Happiness campaign worldwide in the first half of 2009. The new tag line is supposed to tie the fun and happiness with Coca-cola.

In the US market, they released five designs and we have the second, the third and the fifth design. We would love to get hold of the fourth can which has a unique Coca-cola rolling script design.

Also as part of the campaign, Coke will be conducting a talent search in South Africa this August (part of the FIFA World Cup). They will search for three talents who will be back vocalists in the ‘Summer Yama SummAHHH' track to be released in October 2010.

1950s Philippine Ads

Coke was introduced in the Philippines in 1927 and at the end of each year, holiday greetings would be in the form of print advertisements.

We would love to get one of these. Here are two pictures we happen to come across in one of our web searches. Still in black and white, even has stains.
